The government-owned enterprise, Subterráneos de Buenos Aires S.E. (SBASE), has announced an international public tender for the acquisition of 96 new subway cars. These cars are intended for use on Subway Line B in the City of Buenos Aires.
The official notice of the tender was published in the Official Gazette of the City of Buenos Aires on August 22, 2023, with a budget allocation of USD 155 million. The deadline for the submission of bids, as well as the date for the opening of the submitted tenders, is scheduled for December 20, 2023.
Key Specifications:
- The subway cars must meet several key specifications, including:
- Air conditioning systems
- Construction material of either stainless steel or aluminium
- Equipped with security cameras
- Integrated user information system with both visual and auditory features
- Anti-vandal LED lighting
- Longitudinal seating arrangements
- Compatibility with an Automatic Train Protection (ATP) signalling system, with the option for future upgrades to a Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) system featuring two grades of automation (GOA 2)
Additionally, the cars must conform to a rail gauge of 3.10 meters and be at least 17 meters in length. Each car should also feature four doors on each side and include a driver’s cab with one door on each lateral side, along with a connecting door to the adjacent subway car.
Delivery Timeline:
The first set of subway cars is expected to be delivered within 20 months following the formalization of the contract with the winning bidder.
