The Annual Meeting of the International Commercial Law Alliance (ICLA) takes place in the historic city of Kraków in Poland this Friday, proudly hosted by TIGGES law firm. The conference brings together members to discuss and debate the many issues and challenges facing the alliance members in the current commercial law environment.
Kraków is the second-largest and one of the oldest cities in Poland. Situated on the Vistula River in Lesser Poland Voivodeship, the city dates back to the seventh century. was the official capital of Poland until 1596 and has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, economic, cultural and artistic life. Cited as one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, its Old Town with Wawel Royal Castle was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978, one of the world’s first sites granted the status.
ICLA is a strategic group of law firms from around the world – all leaders in their field. Each ICLA member firm provides clients with superior legal and business advice in the jurisdiction where that law firm is located.
“This Alliance will gives each region’s clients great access to experts in many other jurisdictions where they can be confident that their matter will be handled with the same care and commitment to excellence that is provided by member firms,” says Douw Breed, outgoing President of ICLA and the Managing Director of South African member firm, Barnard. “No matter where in the world their business might take them, clients can rest assured that an ICLA member law firm will be there to provide them with the highest level of service.”
In this age of globalisation, the economic landscape is changing rapidly, creating new challenges and opportunities for businesses around the world. Law firms are not immune to these changes, and as a result, many have found it increasingly important to form alliances and share knowledge with firms in other jurisdictions.
The International Commercial Law Alliance (ICLA) seeks to capitalise on this trend while addressing many other factors, including the emergence of new markets, the increasing complexity of the legal environment and the changing nature of our profession. Our member firms all share the same values in respect of client care and professionalism, rendered by all with a distinct commercial mindset. ICLA aligns a group of such firms, exclusively representing their countries, respectively.
ICLA has gone from strength to strength and now boasts member firms across 46 territories. The alliance allows firms to provide seamless legal services to clients operating in different jurisdictions, hold a presence in emerging markets as a competitive advantage, and share knowledge on the application of commercial services within different legal regimes.
